Annual Workshop Events:

Writers Retreat - April
An annual three day Writers Retreat open to writers of all levels. Enrich your talent and prospects at Shake Rag Alley School for the Arts in the charming art community and historic mining town of Mineral Point. Choose an in-depth workshop from three genres - memoir, short story and novel. Interwoven around these main workshops are optional and inspiring activities, panel discussions, and readings. Manuscript consultations also available.

Jewelry Boot Camp - Spring
Choose from introductory level jewelry classes offering a range of techniques and styles from funky to fine. Use this weekend to explore different approaches, learn new skills, network with other jewelers, and leave with a lot of new ideas and jewelry. Come for the weekend and take several classes.

Rustic Arts and Nature Crafts (Woodlanders)  - July

“It’s like summer camp for adults!”
Come together with nature-loving folks from all over and create furniture, garden art, and much more with hand tools and natural materials like twigs and branches, fresh green willow, gourds, stone, hypertufa, and lots more. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, you’ll find Woodlanders a casual and creative time, kind of a summer camp for adults. You’ll enjoy demonstrations, hands-on workshops, and open discussions with talented artisans from across the continent, plus plenty of networking and sharing with kindred spirits.

Art Adventure - end of August

A four day Mixed Media retreat offering workshops across a broad spectrum of art and craft media - collage, assemblage, jewelry, book art, altered art, art journaling, story writing, fiber arts, cement/mosaic, and more.

Immerse yourself in art making, connect with like-minded art adventurers, enjoy evening social activities and take part in group art activities.

Printmaking Retreat - September
Explore an exciting array of printmaking workshops, most of which involve printing simply and easily by hand. Get colorful inks on your fingers—and maybe in your blood—while learning inspiring techniques of Moku Hanga Japanese woodcuts, multi-color linocuts, hand-colored woodcuts, monoprints, copper etching, and silk screen printing.

Non-Workshop events:

Winter Writers Series - November thru April

Since 2011 Shake Rag Alley has partnered with the Council for Wisconsin Writers (CWW), Wisconsin People & Ideas, and the Wisconsin Poet Laureate Commission through the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters to offer week-long residencies to their annual writing contest winners. Between the months of November through April visiting writers participate in workshops, readings and community outreach activities. Readings are held on Wednesday evenings in the Shake Rag Alley Lind Pavilion. Free admission.

Tour of Fairy Homes - May

Stroll Shake Rag Alley's magical grounds to see original fairy homes built especially for this tour. Silent auction of the fairy homes plus story telling and workshops making your own fairy home and/or fairy wand.

Garden Tour and Garden Art & Plant Sale - June

A biennial June tour of private home gardens in and around Mineral Point, plus a sale of garden art produced by Shake Rag instructors and students. Locally grown perennials are also offered for sale.

Trick R Treat at Shake Rag Alley - Halloween evening

Kids (of all ages) meet costumed characters (not scary) who are passing out candy at each of the historic Shake Rag Alley buildings. An annual family tradition immediately following the city's Halloween parade.

Santa Day - early December

Shake Rag Alley is all decked out for the season and for photos with Santa and Mrs Claus, a great family tradition. Workshops are available decorating gingerbread houses and making holiday crafts. It's a full day of family fun.
