New Year Off to a Great Start

It's the start of a new year and we're looking forward to a great 2014 at Shake Rag Alley. We may be enduring an incredible arctic blast at the moment, but that hasn't deterred us - 2014 activities will be underway this week.

Youth Program Classes

The Youth Winter/Spring schedule kicks off this week with Puppet Making and Puppet Play for grades K-5 for both after school and home school. These four week sessions will run through January.

For middle and high school students, the first of six sessions of An Introduction to Theatre start on Friday. Students will work with Ainsley Anderson, Managing Director of Alley Stage, and guest instructors to learn the basics of theater including technical and acting skills.

SRA Winter Writers Series

Author Shauna Singh Baldwin will do a reading at the Mineral Point Public Library on Thursday, January 9 at 7:00 pm. Ms. Baldwin is part of the Shake Rag Alley Winter Writers Series and the winner of the Council for Wisconsin Writers' Anne Powers Book-Length Fiction Award for her work "The Selector of Souls."

This reading is free and open to the public, so come on out and hear Shauna read from what has been described at "a suburb novel." Light refreshments will be served.

This is just the first of a number of events that will be scheduled in conjunction with the Shake Rag Alley Writers Residencies, so watch the Shake Rag website for announcements of upcoming events.

A little later this month, don't miss the annual Shake Rag Alley Valentine Card and Gift Sale fundraiser.

Hundreds of one-of-a-kind valentines made by the Women's Art Party group and local artists, plus Valentine gifts for your special someone. Cards in all styles and price ranges for everyone on your list from grand-kids to grandma, choose your own card sentiment (how many times have you rejected a card simply because the sentiment was so wrong for the recipient?), card making demos, plus decadent sweet treats to enjoy as you shop.

Valentine card making has already begun and will continue through January (up to the sale date) at Smejas' Studio, Wednesdays from 6:30-9pm and Saturdays from 1-5pm. All are welcome, so feel free to stop by to enjoy some creative camaraderie (and some serious valentine making craziness)...all supplies furnished.

Adult Workshops Online and Open for Registration

The adult Workshop season will begin in February with a few offerings and then will get going in earnest in March.

Our first major workshop event of the season, Garden Getaway, is scheduled for March 29-30.

All workshops though June are listed online at ShakeRagAlley.com

For those of you who plan ahead, we have also included an early partial listing of summer/fall classes that are already finalized.

You can search workshops By Subject or By Date. Or, you can use the Search box to search on a keyword. To look for classes for a particular instructor, enter the instructor name in the Keyword box on the Class Search page. Our Instructor Page lists all the 2014 instructors.

There are over 75 workshops on the spring schedule. Lots of your perennial favorites plus many new classes and instructors. So take a look at the schedule and treat yourself to a creative workshop at Shake Rag Alley!
