Woodlanders Gathering - Rustic Arts and Nature Crafts

Spoon Carving

The Woodlanders Gathering started today and is in full swing. In its 12th year, Woodlanders is Shake Rag Alley's big summer event - a four day extravaganza of nature-based arts and crafts workshops plus loads of fun and camaraderie.

Though the name might suggest that you have to be a professional rustic builder to attend, nothing could be further from the truth - it's for anyone, novice or pro, who wants to try their hand at creating rustic furniture, garden art, woodcarvings, and other nature based projects using hand tools and natural materials like twigs and branches, fresh green bendable willow, gourds, stone, leather, plants, cement, metal, and more.

Kind of like summer camp for adults – 50+ workshops and demonstrations, picnics, evening events and popular Woodlanders traditions like the Haiku Tree, Silent Auction, Trade Blanket Exchange, and the Rustic Mini-Boat Race.

High Street Beat blog post outlines Shake Rag's history

In addition to being one of our signature events, Woodlanders goes to the very roots of Shake Rag Alley.

A post appeared this week in High Street Beat about Woodlanders Gathering and the beginnings of Shake Rag Alley as a Center for Arts and Crafts.
"Had it not been for Woodlanders, there’s a possibility that Shake Rag Alley would not exist as we know it today."

Thanks to the Hays for contributing this very nice article.
