A Glorious Garden Tour

Shake Rag's fourth annual Town and Country Garden Tour and first Garden Art and Plant Sale were held on June 18th.

It was indeed a glorious day.

Beautiful weather, hundreds of plants to buy, delightful garden art for sale (colorful benches, willow trellises, stepping stones, prints and cards, fanciful rustic birdhouses, leaf printed t-shirts), Scott Stieber's wonderful music, refreshments on the Green, tours of stone walls by stone mason Roland Sardeson, information on prairie plants provided by Master Gardeners Janet Huebner and Carol Rademaker, even some adorable baby alpacas.

And, of course, the magnificent gardens - meticulously tended city flower gardens, rock gardens, expansive country gardens, secluded lakeside gardens, fountains and ponds, veggie gardens, and lots of garden art.

Many, many thanks to all the volunteers who acted as garden guides, baked yummy treats, sold tickets, placed signs, and just in general made it all happen; to the many artisans and volunteers who created or donated art for sale; to the home gardeners and the Uplands Garden Club for their generous plant donations; to Scott for sharing his musical gifts; to Roland for sharing his knowledge of rock walls and to Janet and Carol for sharing their knowledge of plants; and a big thank you to Sue Okas for pulling it all together.

But most especially, a HUGE THANK YOU to the home owners for their gardening talents and gracious hospitality.
